Deputy Director Nursing Services

Applications are invited from dynamic, self motivated, and success oriented persons to fill the following position of Deputy Director Nursing Services (HPC / RN 6)

Qualifications

• Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Nursing Administration/Health Services Administration;
• Certificate/Diploma/Degree in General Nursing from an accredited institution;
• Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing;
• Six (6) years experience in Nursing Administration, exclusive of clinical experience;
• At least five (5) years working within psychiatry;
• Masters Degree in Nursing Administration or related field would be an asset; PLUS
• Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica in General Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Director of Nursing Services in planning, coordinating and delegating nursing
  functions and equitably allocates staff to maintain efficient and effective patient/client care.
• Investigating critical incidents, unusual occurrences, complaints and takes  appropriate action including referral to the Director of Nursing Services.
• Assisting in maintaining communication between nursing personnel and other members of the health team.
• Assisting in the preparation of statistical and narrative administrative reports to Ministry of Health on staffing cadre.
• Initiating and supervising research of a clinical or administrative nature, using the findings accordingly.
• Assisting in development and implementation of the strategies objectives, policies and standards for nurse for nursing within the particular institution.
• Assisting in budgetary exercise to ensure numbers and levels of nursing personnel, equipment and supplies are up to par.

Specific knowledge and competencies required

• Professional nursing theory and practice;
• Principles of hospital administration and modern management practices;
• Nursing, health and related legislation;
• Knowledge of the principles of hospital administration;
• Human Resource Policies and Procedures
• Excellent leadership skills;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
