Job Title: Psychologist(HPC/ALH3)

Location: Regional Office

The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health responsible for the management and operation of  Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position of Psychologist.

Under the general supervision of the Regional HIV/STI/tb Coordinator, the incumbent will design, coordinate and implement the provision of  psychosocial support at the Regional Health Authority level through specific interventions at the parish level.

Qualifications and experience

  • MSc. Degree in Psychology
  • At least two (2) years experience in Child Psychology and Counselling
  • Experience in counselling HIV+ clients would be an asset

  • Evaluation of clients to facilitate diagnosis, treatment and referral
  • Planning and implementation of management strategies for clients
  • Ability to identify clients in need of emergency treatment and referral to
    appropriate agencies

  • Well developed counselling skills
  • Program planning and evaluation skills
  • Training and presentation skills
  • Networking skills

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and providing psychological counselling and guidance which assists People Living with HIV (PLHIV) with special emphasis on the Adolescent PLHIV and their families
  • Recommending, selecting and arranging services and providing the most favourable
    conditions for the PLHIV
  • Providing crisis consultation, psychological counselling and therapeutic techniques with PLHIV with special emphasis on the  adolescent PLHIV
  • Maintaining contact with the referral agencies to provide ongoing communication between the RHAs and the treatment agency
  • Providing communication and acting as liaison to social agencies/agents of the state
  • Attending and actively participating in relevant committee team meetings
  • Travelling to conference and participating in other educational activities, as assigned, locally and overseas.
