Public Health Officer
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Public Health Officer at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Qualification & Experience
- B.S.c in Environmental Health
- Registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine in Jamaica
- Minimum three (3)years experience in related field
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, the incumbent will be required to:
- Provide daily inspection and certification services for the Hospital’s food supplies, stores, kitchen services, pantries and food services to ensure the procurement, preparation, storage and serving of healthy foods.
- Test / sample food and drink, enforce Public Health requirements to conform to the Bureau of Standards.
- Guide the process of Fumigating and Disinfecting Wards, Operating Theatres, Isolation Areas and Vehicles.
- Report and investigate on cases of infectious diseases within the intuition.
- Conduct rodent control surveys and plan, execute and monitor day to day operations
- Set proper standards for all Food Handling Establishments within the Hospital, and be responsible for validation of Food Handlers Permits.
- Develop plan and execute health education training programmes for food handlers.
- Collect collate and interpret of data on all aspects of Environmental Health.
- Carryout water quality bacteriological and chemical sampling.
