Medical Social Worker
Applications are invited from dynamic, self motivated, and success oriented persons to fill the following position: Medical Social Worker (HPC/MSW 1)
Under the general direction of the Senior Social Worker, the Social Worker is responsible
for liaising with internal and external health professionals as well as external institutions
in an effort to assist patients in their therapeutic treatment, rehabilitation and social well
being as well as their social re-integration process.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Social Work
- At least two (2) years experience in a similar capacity
Responsibilities
- Facilitating the beginning of a therapeutic relationship with the clients and their
families. - Actively participating in the activities of the ward in order to ensure patients’
well-being by determining and assessing their welfare needs and taking
appropriate actions. - Liaising with patients relatives to make preparation for their discharge as well as
to ascertain their attitude towards the patients’ illness and also to provide
continuous support. - Assisting with locating relatives of long staying patients/residents who are
disconnected with their family/relatives and keep track record of those
family/relatives. - Informing families/relatives of updated strategies and plans of the hospital and
Ministry of Health in an effort to motivate and enforce their responsibilities for
caring for patients/residents. - Conducting social investigations in order to assist with the discharge planning of
the patients and inform and update the Clinical Team and/or Director of Patient
Services, Medical Officer, Consultant, Senior Medical Officer of such progress. - Preparing and presenting reports to case conferences in order to assist with the
diagnosis and treatment of clients. - Liaising with the Community Psychiatrist/Community Mental Health
Team/Operations Manager and Transport Supervisor in order to make
arrangements for transporting/accompanying patients to their homes in cases
where they need such assistance. - Keeping a detailed record management system relating to all patients/relatives
interviewed at the Bellevue Hospital or in the community on home investigations
and produce monthly statistics. - Attending Consultant rounds and administrative and clinical meetings as required.
- Participating in the assessment/selection process of patients/residents for
occupational Therapy. - Participating in activities of mental health promotions as required.
- Participating in disaster preparedness planning and conducting debriefing sessions
as required. - Motivating, inspiring and leading the formation of support groups for patients and
their families.

service - Good human relations and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills and good judgement
- Flexible and willing to work under pressure
