Medical Technologist 2

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of health care and public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive and forward thinking individuals to fill the position of Medical Technologist (HPC/MDT 2) for St. Ann and St. Mary.

Summary: Reporting to the Medical Officer (Health), the incumbent will be responsible for performing the Clinical and Public Health function in the disciplines of Hematology, Blood Banking and Clinical Chemistry.

Requirements

• A Specialist Diploma in Medical Technology attained from the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET) or
• A Diploma (General) in Medical Technology attained from the University of Technology (UTECH) or
• A Degree in Medical Technology attained from the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) or
• Experience in Management and four (4) years experience in a Clinical Laboratory, at least (2) of which should be in a supervisory position. Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

• Assists in determining procedures for Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking, Hematological and Microbiological tests in the department.
• Monitor conformity of protocols.
• Develops and implements procedures and establishes parameters for correlation of tests results and preset troubleshooting protocols.
• Monitor record keeping systems and effective quality control procedures (Reagent checks, Equipment and other sophisticated machines for Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking and Hematology.
• Identifies/implements changes needed in the Quality Assurance programme in consultation with the National assurance coordinator at the Reference laboratory (NPHL).
• Make periodic order of whole blood and other blood products from the National Blood Transfusion Service for transfusion purposes.
• Monitors storage of blood and blood products.
• Performs fair amount of complex and unusual tests and studies requiring specialized knowledge and skill through channels with Regional Medical Technologist (NERHA).

Salary Scale

$1,181,971 - $1,404,992 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
