Coordinator, Pharmaceutical Services (HPC/PHS 4), Specialized And Medical Services Division
The incumbent is responsible for liaising with the National Health Fund (NHF) and other Corrections professionals to provide prescription and non- prescription drugs to offender population in accordance with the DCS/NHF memorandum of understanding.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. in Pharmacy;
- Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica;
- Three (3) years’ experience.
Responsibilities
Management/Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensures the availability of adequate supplies of emergency drugs for inmate care;
- Reviews SOPs and recommends the changes where necessary;
- Makes recommendations regarding policies concerning the pharmaceutical services of the
Department; - Oversees the system of procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical sundries to
ensure availability and to prevent misuse and loss in accordance with the DCS/NHF memorandum
of understanding; - Monitors the delivery of pharmaceuticals ensuring that standards are maintained;
- Provides feedback on the performance of NHF service delivery;
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
Technical/Professional Responsibilities
- Coordinates the pharmaceutical activities of the DCS in collaboration with the NHF;
- Maintains an efficient institution surveillance system to recover hoarded drugs for re-distribution;
- Monitors expiration dates of pharmaceuticals;
- Compounds extemporaneous preparations;
- Formulates new dosage forms to meet the specialized needs of the institutions;
- Investigates reports of loss, breakages or shortage of drugs;
- Maintains proper records for purposes of control and accountability of dangerous drugs, controlled drugs and antibiotics.
Other related duties
- Performs any other duty in the interest of the department that may be assigned from time to time.
Required knowledge, skills & competencies
- Knowledge of regulatory framework related to the practice of Pharmacy
- Knowledge of inventory management and logistics
- Knowledge of the organization’s policies and procedures
- Good problem solving skills and strength of character
- Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in the use of relevant computer applications
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proficient understanding of cultural diversity

Salary
Salary Scale: $1,869,996 – $2,222,838 per annum and any applicable allowances.
