The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth. The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position at Mandeville Regional Hospital:
Psychiatric Nursing Aide (HSC/HS 5) – 1 position (Not vacant)
(Salary range $734,516 - $873,108 per annum and any allowance (s) attached to the post) Under the direct supervision of the Registered General Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the care and health education of mentally ill patients and their families in the hospital setting.
Qualification & Experience
- Completion of Secondary School with a minimum of two (2) ‘O’ Level/CXC
subjects or equivalent, inclusive of English Language; - Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing Aide;
- At least one (1) year experience in outreach activities and mental health care.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out simple Nursing procedures to meet the physical needs of patients. These include bed baths or supervise ambulant patients with their baths, mouth care, hair washing and combing, shaving, nail clipping;
- Cleaning and caring equipment and appliance;
- Taking temperature Pulse and Respiration under the guidance of the nurse;
- Assisting in tidying and keeping patients areas clean and properly ventilated, eg, bed-making, cleaning lockers;
- Assisting in meeting nutritional needs of patients by serving diets and feeding helpless patients;
- Accompanying patients from one location to another for treatment, tests, transfer and discharges as directed by nurse in charge;
- Participating in the rehabilitation of patients.
Specific Knowledge/Skills Required
- General understanding of mental health and behavioural disorders;
- Knowledge of skills in safe restraining techniques;
- Ability to work effectively in a team;
- Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral format;
- Ability to respect patient confidentiality;
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills;
- Physical Fitness.
