The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position in the Manchester Health Department:
PARISH DENTAL SURGEON (HPC/DS 3)
(Salary range $2,943,736 – $3,499,176 per annum and any applicable allowances)
Job Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Officer of Health; the Parish Dental Surgeon has responsibility to provide professional and expert oral & dental services; covering the Parishes Oral and Dental Health Programmes; supervising all categories of dental personnel whilst providing guidance and specialist consultants to the other members of the health team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post Graduate training in a Dental Specialty;
- Registration with the Dental Council of Jamaica;
- Five years post registration experience as a Dentist in the public or private sectors or a combination of both;
- Supervisory Management training will be an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and supervising the operations of the Parish Dental Services;
- Participating in the development and review of policies and strategies for the delivery of
Oral Health Services; - Participating in the development of the annual work programmes and operating budget for the Dental Health Services in the parish;
- Overseeing the use, operation, maintenance and major repairs of dental equipment;
- Participating in the development and review of monitoring mechanisms to be instituted.
- Preparing and submitting monitoring and non-conformance reports;
- Receiving, collating and analyzing oral health data received from field staff within the Parish, on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
- Providing technical advice to the Medical officer (Health) and other senior members of the health team in matters pertaining to service delivery of the Dental Health Services;
- Reviewing and auditing clinical records prepared by Dental Auxiliaries in the execution of their duties in the Government Services;
- Planning and executing basic and post basic training for Dental Auxiliaries.
Educational requirements
- Sound knowledge of National Health Policy;
- In-depth knowledge of concepts, theories and techniques related to oral health;
- Knowledge of Dental Act and Regulations;
- Knowledge of trends and development in Dentistry;
- Knowledge of management principles and practices;
- Knowledge of computer applications;
- Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral format;
- Ability to exercise tact, understanding, patience, initiative and resourcefulness;
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with a wide range of professional and non-professional groups and organizations.
Special conditions associated with the job
- Will be required to travel extensively throughout the health districts;
- Maybe assigned to several dental clinics within the health districts;
- Will be required to respond to emergency dental conditions.
