Dental Officer
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer to fill the position of Dental Officer.

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth
Qualifications and Experience
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree;
- Be registered with the Jamaica Dental Council and have a valid practicing certificate;
- A minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience as a practicing Dental Surgeon.
Knowledge and Technical Skills
- Excellent knowledge of best practices in Dentistry;
- Excellent knowledge of and practice within the legal, ethical and professional boundaries that guide the practice of Dentistry;
- Excellent and efficient clinical skills;
- Excellent knowledge and use of proper infection control protocols;
- Ability to effectively mange patient flow.
Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills
- Strong ability to work independently;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong attention to details.
Attitude
Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate into military life.
Military Standards
In addition to the academic qualifications and competencies, candidates must be able to pass the assessments requirements for enlistment in the JDF.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose and treat military personnel and their families.
- Interpret radiographs and other diagnostic tests, and create suitable treatment plans.
- Perform routine preventive, paediatric, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, oral surgery, oral pathology, oral radiology and prosthodontic treatment.
- Provide emergency dental service outside of normal working hours, as necessary;
- Supervise Dental Auxiliaries in the conduct of their duties;
- Examine candidates for suitability for enlistment in the JDF.
- Ensure the Dental Clinic and laboratory operate within the parameters of the Dental Act of Jamaica.
