Regional Food Safety Coordinator
The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive and analytical individual to fill the position of Regional Food Safety Coordinator at the Regional Office.
Reporting to the Regional Environmental Health Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the Region’s food safety programme, to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Health’s policy and requirements, and to promote the maintenance of standards of food safety & protection.
Requirements
- B.Sc. (Environmental Health, Public Health Inspection) or equivalent;
- Post graduate training in Meat & Other Foods;
- Diploma in Supervision or Management;
- Diploma/Certificate in Animal Health/Veterinary Public Health, Food Science, HACCP or other Food Safety certification;
- Registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine in Jamaica;
- Competency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
- Excellent analytical, report writing and presentation skills;
- Proven track record in managing and implementing public health programmes;
- Proactive work attitude, good ethical conduct and human relations skill.
The following qualifications would be an asset
- Masters in Public Health, Food Science, Environmental Health or other related field;
- Diploma in Community Health, Health Education or Public Administration.
Responsibilities will include
- Managing the Region’s food safety and protection programme to ensure compliance with national standards;
- Promoting the enforcement of applicable standards, guidelines, codes and requirements;
- Overseeing the health certification programmes for food handling and tourist establishments;
- Developing, implementing and monitoring projects/strategies to reduce food safety hazards and risks in the Region Providing cutting edge advice and recommendations on technological advances and approaches to ensure food safety and protection;
- Coordinating the environmental health team’s input in the investigation of foodbourne illness outbreaks;
- Collaborating with stakeholders in the food industry;
- Coordinating the Regions food handlers certification and food safety and protection
training programmes; - Conducting audits of certification databases and establishments self inspection checklists;
- Preparing relevant reports.
