Medical Technologist
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites applications from suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer to serve as a Medical Technologist.
Candidate must be a Commonwealth citizen.
Professional & Educational Requirements
- An accredited Degree in Medical Technology;
- Must be registered with the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine;
- Working and clinical experience in immunohaematology and clinical chemistry;
- A minimum of two (2) years post-internship experience.
Key Competencies
- Excellent ability to create stain and read blood films;
- Expertise in conducting blood baking test including group and cross match.
- Excellent knowledge of and the ability to interpret haematology assay;
- Knowledge of common instrument problems and the ability to troubleshoot machinery or instrumentation.
Critical & Analytical Thinking Skills
- Strong ability to work independently;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to details
Attitude
- Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate into military life.
- Willingness to work long hours and on weekends.
Military Standards
In addition to the academic qualifications and competencies, candidates must be able to pass the assessment requirements for enlistment in the JDF.
Responsibilities
- Create stain and read blood films;
- Perform blood banking tests i.e. group and cross match;
- Perform and interpret haematology assay;
- Troubleshoot machinery or instrumentation;
- Conduct Microbiology work up.
