Mental Health Nurse
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites applications from suitably qualified persons to serve as a Mental Health / Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the Regular Force.
Requirements
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica;
- Registered Nurse;
- Post Basic Psychiatric Nurse training;
- Masters Degree in Nurse Practitioner Mental Health;
- Have at least five (5) years experience as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Core competencies
- Ability to assess, diagnose and treat mental disorders;
- Ability to deliver counseling and psychotherapy;
- Ability to create patient care plans;
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychopharmacology;
- Excellent clinical record keeping skills;
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of clients;
- Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to conduct mental health wellness seminars;
- Ability to train service members to recognize metal illness indicators;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and treat mental disorders;
- Overseeing and maintaining the mental health and wellness for members of the JDF and their families;
- Provide counselling to members of the JDF and their families;
- Maintain accurate records.
Attitude
- Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate into military life.
Military standards
- In addition to the academic qualification and competencies, candidate must be able to pass the assessment requirements for enlistment in the JDF.
