Senior Medical Technologist


Reporting to the Laboratory director the successful candidate will have responsibility for the efficient operations of the laboratory. This responsibility may be discipline specific (i.e. Haematology, Chemistry or Microbiology) or may apply to medical technical operations as a whole.

Job Summary

The ideal candidates will be a valuable member of the management team. They will participate in decision making of the highest level. Their role in identifying technological changes and advances in the field of medical laboratory medicine will be critical to the maintenance of our quality system based on the ISO 15189:2012 standard.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from a reputable academic institution
  • Licensed Medical Technologist with the Council, Professions Supplemental to Medicine (CPSM) in Jamaica
  • Training in Supervisory Management
  • Six (6) years minimum experience at the Supervisory level
  •  Extensive knowledge in or expert in one or more of the following disciplines: Haematology, Clinical Chemistry or Microbiology
  • Training in Laboratory Quality Management Systems and Laboratory Standard (ISO 15189/ ISO 17025/ ISO 9001)
  • Knowledge of computer applications and usage, specifically Laboratory Information System (LIS)

Job requirements

  • Assist in the compliance of good work practices by staff as required by the ISO standard.
  • Report on all key performance indicators
  • Prepare monthly report or submit data for monthly report for the laboratory of section of the department or laboratory in a timely fashion
  • Manage the ordering and maintenance of reagent and consumables for the optimal performance of all aspects of the work undertaken in the laboratory or section of the department/laboratory
  • Participate in the selection of new laboratory instruments and the development of new technologies to enable an improved and more efficient service.
  • Assist in the investigation of revenue saving procedures and cost analysis of service delivery while maintaining the quality of the laboratory or section of the department / laboratory operation
  • Participate in the costing exercise for the operation of the laboratory or section of the department / laboratory operation
  • Ensure that the calibration and preventative maintenance schedules of laboratory instruments takes place according to laboratory and manufacturers protocols

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Ability to accurately perform standard laboratory procedures and to observe results
  • Knowledge of the care and preservation of specimens
  • Knowledge of the operation, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment
