Occupational Health Doctor
Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited invites suitable qualified persons to fill the position of Occupational Health Doctor.
The job holder is a member of the Human Resource and Industrial Relations Department, under which the Occupational Health Center falls. The Company doctor/physician must maintain a current medical licence, offer medical services, and restore human health through the practice of medicine. KFTL MD must be available Monday - Friday as well as be on call for 24 hours business coverage. He/she must be able to liaise with other medical practitioners in cases where employees are hospitalised to ascertain pertinent updates and assist where applicable with the management of their care.
Educations, Experience & Key competencies
- Current certified medical license to practice in Jamaica;
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in residency training (essential);
- Three (3) years experience practicing as primary care doctor;
- Excellent counselling, listening, leadership, organisational and time management skills;
- Excellent analytical, decision-making skills communication (written/oral), attention to details;
- Medical investigation and reporting writing skills;
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced terminal environment;
- Compassionate nature with the ability to make patients feel at ease;
- Application of industrial work environment settings;
- Policy and procedure development;
- Presentation and facilitation skills;
- Qualitative skills;
- Thoroughness and attentiveness to details.
Responsibilities
- Conduct medical screening of employees to determine fitness for duty as per Company medical policy and procedures;
- Assist in the management and response to workers medical problems;
- Diagnose and treat injury or illness that occurs in the workplace, lead in the management of on-the-job injuries and provide advice about how to prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace;
- Conduct research related to occupational health issues such as chemical exposure or ergonomic hazards and provide ergonomic evaluations of work environments to reduce risk of injury or illness;
- Maintain accurate records of patient diagnoses, test results, treatments and follow up care as needed;
- Prescribe medications to treat chronic health problems in workers and discuss and evaluate new pharmaceutical products used in the OHC;
- Assist in the promotion of health education in conjunction with other medical stakeholders and the government health ministry;
- Assist in the development and maintenance of medical guidelines and procedures;
- Keep updated with medical developments, treatment and medications and keep the relevant key stakeholders informed;
- Must be available to guide the Occupational Health staff on site via phone call in an emergency.
