Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Officer
The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a strong, dynamic, and proactive individual to fill the position of Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Officer (HPC/ALH 2).
Summary
Under the general direction of the Regional Technical Director, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the development of surveillance programmes, and identifying high risk areas and recommending corrective action. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring proper storage and handling of vaccines and clinical specimen, collecting and analyzing data to establish trends and conducting epidemiological investigations under the supervision of the Regional Technical Director.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Public Health;
- Certificate in Epidemiology;
- A minimum of six (6) years working experience in public health or disease surveillance;
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Develops in collaboration with Regional Technical Director and Regional Programme Development Officer surveillance programmes for the Region;
- Identifies areas of high risk with low vaccine coverage and prepare a plan of action to increase immunization coverage;
- Advises parish staff on the implementation of established case investigation methods and the institution of appropriate control measures in the face of EPI preventable diseases;
- Assists in the training of Public Health Nurses and nursing students in surveillance and reporting, including outbreak investigation, specimen collection, vaccination storage and administration;
- Provides guidance to new surveillance sites in reporting and specimen collection, ensuring compliance with established norms and procedures;
- Undertakes active and passive surveillance in designated sites and private practices. This duty includes: educate relevant staff on collecting infectious disease data from providers and hospital, educate relevant staff on reporting, specimen collection, and vaccination contraindications;
- Collects and analyse data to establish disease trends;
- Assist in the conduct of outbreak, vaccine failure and other epidemiological investigations.
Remuneration
- Salary Scale: $5,055,684 – $6,009,620 per annum.
