Position: Public Health Inspector 1 (HPC/EH 1)
Salary scale: : $3,241,533 – $3,853,164 per annum
The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive and forward- thinking individual to fill the position of Public Health Inspector 1 (HPC/EH 1) at the St. Ann Health Department.
Summary
Reporting to the Chief Public Health Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for managing and promoting hygiene and environmental sanitation within the community as well as ensures compliance with public health laws and regulations. The Public Health Inspector has the authority to enforce the Public Health Act and its Regulations, serving notices an instituting prosecution to enforce the law as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor`s Degree in Environmental Health with major in Public Health Inspection;
- Registered as Certified Public Health Inspector.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor residential premises, comprising of (but not limited to) monitoring domestic water supply with chlorine residual checks, solid waste management, sewage and waste water management, vector control and other general sanitation matters;
- Inspect and monitor schools, nursing homes, beauty salons, barber shops, and other service establishments for compliance with public health standards;
- Conduct surveys in communities and implement programmes to address public health issues;
- Discuss local public health concerns with relevant authorities/stakeholders;
- Perform field checks on potable water treatment systems to include chlorine residual and pH testing;
- Promote public and environmental health programmes; provide information and advice to the public on environmental health matters;
- Investigates complaints of insanitary conditions at residential and other premises in order to initiate action of communicable disease prevention and control;
- Enforce public health regulations by serving notices and instituting prosecutions;
- Monitor empty lots and serve notices for those that require de-bushing and clearing;
- Give lecturers to students and other community groups; interpret Public Health Regulations;
- Assist in Food Handlers’ Health Certification Training;
- Conduct training sessions for health certification of barbers and hairdressers;
- Participate in the outbreak of Disaster Mitigation and response;
- Assist with Supervision of vector control workers, environmental health workers and National Youth Service (NYS) workers.
Specific knowledge required
- Knowledge of new trends and development in public health and environmental science;
- Knowledge of public health laws, governmental regulations, court procedures and the Staff Orders for the Public Service;
- Knowledge of social life and cultural practices in community;
- Ability to promote sanitation education and interest in improved health standards.
