Dental Assistant

Position: Dental Assistant (HTAC/DA 1)

Salary scale: $ 2,078,360 – 2,470,517 per annum 

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a  statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland  invites applications from suitably qualified  persons to fill the position of Dental Assistant  (HTAC/DA 1) assigned to the Portland Health  Department.

Under the general direction of the Dental  Surgeon, the incumbent is responsible for  preparing the dental clinic for patient care and  facilitating daily clinical operations to include  preparing instruments and equipment and  performing administrative duties.

Requirements

• Certificate in Dental Assisting from an  accredited institution;
• 6 – 9 months of training as per the Ministry  of Health training plan. (* Dental Assistant  training level I and II).

Responsibilities

• Maintain an inventory of all dental  instruments, supplies and equipment and  record in the Inventory Report.
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and  equipment.
• Schedule and confirm appointments for  patients.
• Collect and record patient medical and  dental history and vital signs.
• Prepare tray set ups for dental procedures  for each patient, and assist the Dentist,  Dental Therapists/Nurses and Hygienists  during dental procedures.
• Capture intraoral and/or extraoral  radiographic images with subsequent  processing of the obtained radiographs. 

Specific knowledge required

• Knowledge of dental surgery instruments, equipment and materials used in dentistry;
• Knowledge of methods and procedures used in delivering oral care;
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals used in dentistry;
• Knowledge of the Government’s Dental Health Policies and Procedures manual.
