Public Health Inspector 2


The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a strong, dynamic, and proactive individuals to fill the position of Public Health Inspector 2 (HPC/EH 2) at the Portland Health Department.
Summary
Reporting to the Chief Public Health Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for managing and promoting the sanitation status of food handling establishments within the community as well as ensuring compliance with public health laws and regulations. The Public Health Inspector has the authority to enforce the Public Health Act and its Regulations, serving notices an instituting prosecutions to enforce the law as required.
Salary Range: $3,759,184 – $4,468,488 per annum
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health with major in Public Health Inspection;
- Diploma in Meats and other Foods Inspection;
- Registered as Certified Public Health Inspector;
- Three (3) years` experience as a Public Health Inspector.
Responsibilities
- Inspect all food handling establishments to ensure that Public Health standards are maintained;
- Enforce Public Health Act and requisite regulations to include serving notices, effecting closure of establishments and instituting prosecutions;
- Inspect and pass meat fit for human consumption;
- Conduct Food Handlers Health Certification Training Sessions;
- Assist with inspection and monitoring of Tourist Establishments;
- Examine floor plans for the purpose of safety and health to ensure adherence to approved specifications;
- Promote and conduct lectures in areas of specialty; participate in In-Service training programme;
- Promote field checks on potable water/ waste water treatment systems to include chlorine residual and pH testing;
- Conduct investigations into outbreaks relating to food, water and vector borne diseases; made relevant interventions, e.g. reporting to relevant authorities for remedial action;
- Participate in epidemiological surveys regarding water borne and other communicable diseases.
Specific knowledge required
- Knowledge of new trends and development in public health and environmental science;
- Knowledge of public health laws, governmental regulations, court procedures and the Staff Orders for the Public Service;
- Knowledge and application of scientific methods ad principles;
- Knowledge of principles and possesses involved in organizational planning coordination and execution;
- Knowledge of social life and cultural practices in community;
- Ability to promote sanitation education and interest in improved health standards.
