Enrolled Assistant Nurse


The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), formed out of a merger of the Child Development Agency and the Office of Children’s Registry,  is a leader in Jamaica’s child protection system, with a combined legacy reputation for our work in promoting child-friendly policies and ground-breaking programmes to strengthen families. The CPFSA is under the purview of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information and works collaboratively with the OCA, the JCF, and other government agencies.

 

Position: Enrolled Assistant Nurse (Level 4)

Location: Glenhop Nursery, Kingston (1 position)

Salary:  $1,711,060 - $2,301,185 per annum

Job Summary

To provide auxiliary medical services in the care of wards of the State.

Qualifications

  • Certificate, Enrolled Assistant Nurse from a recognized institution or equivalent
    qualification
  • Three (3) years` experience in a direct or related environment
  • Be registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Valid Food Handler`s Permit OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience 

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, serve, and collect food trays for  wards as necessary
  • Feed wards when necessary
  • Bathes, grooms and dresses challenged wards
  • Accompany wards to clinics and other health care facilities as required
  • Measure and record vital signs, eight and height of wards
  • Measure and record food and liquid intake and output as required
  • Sterilize equipment and supplies as needed
  • Set up equipment such as oxygen tents and overhead irrigation bottle as directed
  • Administer medication as directed by Medical and/or Nursing personnel
  • Store, prepare and issue dressing packs, treatment trays and other supplies as required
  • Apply dressings and other nursing care as required and as necessary
  • Answer ward`s call bell
  • Maintain medical records of wards
  • Report all abnormal health conditions to Supervisor immediately
  • Attend meetings, seminars and other training sessions as required
  • Uphold timely attendance at meetings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and trusting  relationships in accordance with the  mandate of the Agency
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned from time to time

  • Medication recorded, stored, and secured
  • Wards accompanied to scheduled clinics and hospital appointments
  • Ward`s health is monitored
  • Equipment and supplies sterilized
  • Vital signs measured and recorded
  • Hygienic conditions observed

 

Required competencies

  • Knowledge of the Child Care and  Protection Act, Children (Adoption) Act and  other relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of Child Development Agency procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of issues affecting children locally and internationally
  • Caring, patient and a good listener
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be dependable, courteous and a team player
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good knowledge of CPR and First Aid
  • Good knowledge of the developmental stages of children
