Orthopaedic Technician HT 2

The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive, experienced and analytical individual with strong team building skills to fill the position of Orthopaedic Technician at the St. Ann`s Bay Regional Hospital.
Requirements
- Five (5) CSEC subjects including Mathematics and English language
- One (1) year experience in an approve health care hospital
Responsibilities
- Application and removal of casts, splints and braces.
- Instruct patients in caring for their injuries, understand and adjust traction equipment (skin & skeletal) and be able to adjust crutches, walkers, and other aids and provide instructions to patients in their use
- Attend to surgical patients-remove plasters and traction, prepare limb (wash & sanitize)
- Pre-surgical patient preparation- prepare equipment, position patient on operating table
- Proper equipment management- preparation, usage, cleaning and storage.
- Assist physicians in the manipulation of fractures
- Assist physicians with patient care; properly fit and apply pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods; assists in preparation for and application of casts and orthopedic appliances; changes dressings, remove sutures, casts and splints.
- Assists physicians and nurses with Orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, fracture reductions etc; instructs patients in casts and traction care and the use of orthopedic appliances
- Maintains clean and well stocked casts and soft goods room; orders special supplies and or equipment
- Coordinates data collection resources for the clinic information systems
Specific Skills Required
- Ability to exert average physical effort
- Ability to work effectively under stress or emergency situations
- Ability to sit or stand for extended period of time
- Ability to push, pull, squat, twist, turn, lift, bend, stoop and reach overhead.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of health care and medical procedures including terminology
- Good oral communication skills.
- Good time management skills.
Salary Scale
$2,078,360 – $2,470,517 per annum
