Medical Officer
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Medical School, with management training
- Registration with the Medical Council of Jamaica
- Post-graduate qualification in Public Health plus five (5) years relevant experience
- Ability to provide effective leadership and work as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with a wide cross section of professionals and organizations
- Excellent analytical and forecasting skills
- Excellent time management and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the delivery of integrated health services, curative, promotive and preventive, in the parish, in accordance with the governments policies and regulations and will ensure the appropriate balance in the delivery of these services.
- Consult and collaborate with Senior Medical Officer of the relevant hospital in ensuring the integration of services through an adequate, fully functional and responsive referral system which facilitates client movement through all levels of service delivery
- Act as a consultant to the Local Board of health as established under the Public Health Law
- Promote and enforce requirements of the Public Health Law and its regulations in all areas
- Be responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of all primary care programmes and other health related activity in the communities; supervise all primary care staff.
- Implement quality assurance programmes for both public and private sector according to national guidelines
- Manage Public Health Emergencies and Disasters within the Parish
- Identify, conduct and monitor epidemiological and operational research deemed to be relevant to service delivery
- Ensure data availability for decision making and monitor disease trends through the establishment of, and maintenance of a surveillance system.
- Prevent and manage non communicable and communicable diseases through the establishment of, and management of control measures relevant to both the private and public sectors.
- Receive and analyze data from all facilities, including the hospital, advise the Regional Technical Director, the Parish Management Committee and Parish Manager on priorities, needs, new programmes etc.
