District Public Health Nurse

Applications are invited from qualified persons for the position of: District Public Health Nurse (HPC/RN 4) for the St. James Public Health Services.

The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health) is currently seeking to employ a District Public Health Nurse for the St. James Public Health Services. Reporting to the Senior Public Health Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating & evaluating of all patient care programmes within the Maroon Town Health District.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree or its equivalent in Public Health Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Five (5) to seven (7) years post registration as Registered Nurse/Midwife.
• At least two (2) years Public Health Nursing Practice.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the delivery of Family Planning, Chronic Disease, Maternal & Child Health services within the Health District.
• Plans and supervises the implementation & evaluation of both internal and external programmes.
• Ensures adequate stock is available within the Health Centre.
• Supervises the clinical management of high risk clients in the Health District
• Initiates and coordinates surveillance activities in an effort to control communicable disease.
• Supervises the nursing and support staff
• Identifies training needs, develops & conducts programmes to meet the needs of nursing & support staff.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff.
• Initiates & participates in research activities.

Specific Knowledge Required

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent time management and team building skills.
• Strong observational skills.
