Director of Nursing

Job Summary

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the provision of high quality nursing care by overseeing the nursing services of the Hospital and creating a collaborative and efficient work environment with attention to quality standards, policies and patient/service user experience.

Requirements

• Degree in General Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
• Qualifications in Management
• Current registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS
• Graduate with beginning professional skills to a maximum of five (5) years moving from novice to expert staff nurse.

Responsibilities

 Develops and implements nursing service objectives, policies and procedures to maintain quality nursing care.

• Determines staffing levels and monitors for adequacy in provision of nursing care.
• Oversees administrative functions in Nursing Department.
• Recommends and collaborates in In-Service education programs to promote staff development.
• Monitors the quality and type of care provided on all nursing units.
• Serves on committees as required.
• Rotate through various clinical services, where qualified and competent
• Follows facility safety and OSHA safety rules and procedures.
• Respects cultural and religious practices of patients and the Institution
• Prepare reports on the Medical Services Division’s activities and performance.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Positive work attitude, sound ethical conduct, good human relations, basic nursing philosophy, calm, controlled and purposeful manner, positive work ethics, punctual, reliable.
• Excellent clinical, communication, interpersonal, leadership, diagnostic/problem solving skills.
• Good decision making skills
• Ability to differentiate and discriminate/determine the patients’ need for medical intervention.
• Fundamentals of analysis and interpretation of diagnostic report and data.
• Supervisory Management skills.
• Knowledge of and ability to maintain the code of ethics of the nursing profession.
• Excellent Team player.
