Targeted Intervention Officer


The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position: Targeted Intervention Officer (GMG/AM3) – Clarendon

Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health and receiving technical direction from the Regional Behavior Communication Change Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible to coordinate and implement the regional strategy through specific interventions at the parish level. The incumbent will also be required to coordinate behaviour change communication Interventions specifically targeting female sex workers (FSW) and men who have sex with men (MSM).

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelors degree in Social Science or Health related field. Plus 
  • A minimum of one (1) years work experience in social work, behavior change communication, youth development or health promotion and good working knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexual reproductive health issues. 
  • Experience in programme management, monitoring and evaluation 
  • Experience in multi agency collaboration. 
  • Experience in health promotion, social marketing, and coordination of health programmes and staff supervision.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Sound Knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STIs Behaviour change models and theory and Public Health. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability.

 

Responsibilities

  • The development and implementation of a parish BCC programme workplan, in keeping with the National and parish STI/HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Programme Plan. 
  • Develop and implement three (3) targeted community interventions annually. 
  • Identify, monitor and map Female Sex Workers (FSW) activities in the parish including weekly visits to high- risk FSW sites. 
  • Identify, monitor and map MSM activities in the parish including weekly visits to high- risk MSM sites. 
  • To establish and monitor at least ten (10) new non-traditional condom outlets in the parish. 
  • Plan at least six (6) HIV/STI community outreach prevention programmes to include VCT for HIV especially among men. 
  • Coordinate HIV/STI commemorative events within the parish. 
  • Plan and implement at least three (3) empowerment training programmes for MSM annually. 
  • Monthly plan of work and monthly and quarterly reports outlining the status and progress of the HIV/STI prevention programmes in the parish. 
  • Prepare special reports of any major BCC activities held in the parish.
